This weekend, my friend Vanessa and I headed to Kelowna for a mini road trip and to go to our friend Carrie's wedding. The drive up was beautiful!
The only hickup in the trip was realizing, after several stops in Chilliwack, that I had lost the house key of where we were supposed to be staying. oops. So we backtracked a bit but couldn't find it but figured we'd head and see what happened! Thankfully the neighbors had a key and graciously lent it to us for the weekend. I guess we seemed legit enough. Made me wonder what I would do if two girls came up to my door and said "Hi, we are staying here for the weekend but lost the house key but heard you had one. Could we use it for the weekend please?" Evidently we looked trustworthy as they gave us the key no problem, but I thought it was slightly random and funny.
We had an amazing view of the lake and went around and explored a bit before watching an absolutely horrible movie. Okay, so it wasn't horrible, but since we thought it was a comedy and were expecting that, it wasn't great. It was "everything's fine". And the entire movie is actually just really sad. We hyped it up after by watching 'Maid in Manhattan'.
Saturday we went to the wedding which was in a cute little church. When Sam and Carrie were pronounced husband and wife, the pastor said "And you may now.... update your facebook statues" hahahaha hilarious! So they both grabbed blackberries and updated their statuses. Nice little touch. ;)
The reception was at a beautiful winery in Kelowna and it was fun to catch up with some old friends from high school and also meet some new people. Below are pictures of their first dance.. The music started as Celine Dion.. which was kind of unexpected for them.. but then it cut out and the new music came on and they came jumping out in sumo suits.
Hahaha.. so they danced around in those and knocked one another over which was hilarious. Totally unexpected but could not stop laughing the entire time! :)
Then they awkwardly tried slow dancing a bit with their suits on!
It was great to celebrate their day with them and they are such a great couple. I love it at weddings when you walk away knowing that these two people are perfect for one another. That's how it felt at their wedding and I'm so happy for them and it was great to see how perfectly their wedding day reflected who they are.
Vanessa squared as we like to call ourselves. :)
Loved Carrie's dress! And she looked absolutely stunning!

After watching bits of the Canucks game (Yeah Canucks! Way to pummel Chicago!), we went out for dinner for Japanese and then hung out at Starbucks for quite a while.
Then we headed to a pub where we met with some friends to hang out for the evening.
Despite the waitress hating us and spilling water all over me, it was fun! afterwards we wandered around in downtown Kelowna for quite a while. Was interesting to people watch. We walked along the water as well which is always beautiful at night.
Then we made a stop at Safeway for some bulk candy and had fun trying to toss it at each other in the parking lot (simple things amuse simple minds).
Then we headed to a place called Paul's tomb. The fact that it was called Paul's tomb and that it was pitch black creeped us out slightly.. We saw some deer on the way and then once we got there it was about a 20 minute walk in the pitch black through the woods/mountain to get to a secluded beach area where we lay on blankets and stargazed. Stunning! I love stars and could just lie for hours watching them. So it was wonderful to just enjoy the night, despite being slightly freezing cold.
The next day there was an open house thing to hang out more with Sam and Carrie which was fun. Then we headed back to the Lower Mainland. The drive was rainy and gross at times, but I was thankful there was no snow on the ground despite a bit of snowy/slushiness.
It's good to be home again and I have a few more little trips coming up to look forward to! And lots to do this week! And starting today i am a student again, so I'm back in the books and LOVING it! Didn't realize how much I missed it. Or perhaps how nerdy that makes me.
Enjoy Monday! I'm going to go for a jog and enjoy the patches of blue sky!

quite interesting that the neighbors gave you a key :)
LOVE that they updated their facebook statuses right after being married - too funny! i always wanted to get married in an orchard...a vineyard would be a close second (obviously, neither happened with a december wedding).
that sounds like some SERIOUS stargazing...how lovely!
I saw "Everything's Fine" and hated it also! I watched it on the plane, and after a while just looked out the window at white instead. I thought the worst part, before I stopped watching, was when the guy smashed Robert DeNiro's pills.
Sounds like an awesome weekend away! Interesting sidenote: I met your friend Vanessa, if she works at Sylvan. She was at my center for a couple of days! Small world. :)
Updating Facebook status in the ceremony and dancing their first dance in Sumo suits??!!! Sounds like something from a movie. In fact, your whole weekend could be a movie! You've already got some great material for a script. That could be your next project : )
