Valley, Very, Vendors

On the Saturday we woke up fairly early to beat the heat and drove to the Valley of the Kings. The sun was rising as we drove and it was breathtaking! My pictures are backwards so I'll go through the day backwards. We went to the temple of Queen Hatchepsut, which she had built on the other side of the valley because she wanted her tomb to connect to her temple.

This is a painting depicting an offering to the gods. The one item missing from the sacrifice/offering is the fish. The reason for this was during one of the fights between the gods (kay maybe it wasn' that but that's what i'm remembering) a fish ate one of the god's genitals or something... so now they wouldn't offer it to the gods. um. might have got the story wrong but it was something like that. hahahahahaha
The Temple from afar. The stairs were fun to climb in the blazing heat!

You couldn't take pictures in the tombs, but it was still cool seeing the multitudes of engravings and drawings on all the walls and stuff. I can't even imagine what treasures must have been in these tombs. Especially after seeing everything that was in King Tut's tomb and he wasn't even that big of a deal. I found it ironic that Ramses the II who was a pretty big deal has a tomb that got flooded after the high dam was built.. haha. seems interesting how everything gets leveled out in the end.
Another interesting point that Linda brought up when seeing all this and looking at the ancient Egyptian view of death is that they accomplished what they had purposed. They wanted the kings to live on beyond death... and in a way they've done that, because they have lived on in the fact that they are known by many people and tourists come from everywhere to see and learn about them.
Some statues at M... dont' remember the name. sorry. they're pretty big.

Queen Hatchepsut had a beard as well to show people she meant business...
