Homework, Hurt, Hangout

So last night I went to a games night which was incredibly fun. WE played Dutch Blitz for about two hours and rotated teams with eight people. I stood for a lot of it and my back was bent at a weird angle and afterwards I could barely move because my back hurt so much. Couldn't sleep last night, because the pain was so bad and anything I do hurts.. After class today I came home and slept for four hours and now I'm trying to ignore the pain and paper write. AHHHH.. anyone know any good way of getting rid of back pain?

The word "homework" is a noun, but today I was thinking about how it is funny that I have turned it into a verb.. As in "Want to come over and homework with me?" "Are you homeworking today?" And so forth... I am excited for the day when the majority of my social interactions and hangouts are simply to hang out and not to mutually do homework together...

Chrystal is going to come over this evening and we are going to watch a movie. perhaps I should feel bad at the lack of work I am getting done but right now I just hurt too much to care. That's what tomorrow is for and hopefully when I wake up I will feel like a million dollars. (side note: I wonder what a million dollars feels like.. hmm maybe it doesn't actually feel THAT good)

Done, Down, Depression

I just finished writing a paper! YEAH! That means I only have like 70 more pages of papers to write for the rest of the semester! Boo ya! The paper I wrote was about religion and how sometimes it can lead to having an extreme internal or external locus of control (that's where you think the control of your life comes from.. you or other circumstances/people) can lead to learned helplessness and consequently depression. And how a balanced approach needs to be found between faith and works, between one's own actions and depending on God within them. Interesting enough. Not really sure if it makes sense, but I'm okay with that, because it's DONE and now I have one DOWN. If anyone likes editing and wants to read/edit my paper, let me know!!

Updated Countdown:
-six more classes to attend
-10 more days until classes are done!
-16 more days until my last exam! (and first exam)
-17 more days until I start working full time!
-77 more days until fun!
-70 more pages to type for papers
-120 more papers to mark!!

YIPPEE!

Bricks, Break, Breakfast

This is what kept me in bed for an extra hour this morning: Brick Breaker on my blackberry. I have a hi-score of 15000 and can't stop playing. It's really not that fun, but it's compulsive. Thankfully I know others that play often so I don't feel too bad. I went to get breakfast and misplaced my phone so perhaps now I can get some schoolwork done :) Happy Saturday all!

Time, Try, Ten

I have recently learned (this morning) that there exists a ten minute time frame in the morning between 6am and 8:30am and if I do not get up during those ten minutes, then getting out of bed later on is brutal. I shall try and capitalize this. I am learning that less sleep for me is better. At least that's what I'm banking on today. :) Now off to school to learn, hopefully finish my thesis and have an adventure with George!

Tape, Tomorrow, Thesis

Happy Thursday! This is me sporting my new friend George, the massive, prehistoric tape player that shall be my friend for the next week. Right now I"m writing a paper on the connections between psychotherapy (counseling) and spirituality. So I'm interviewing five different people, hence the need for George. It's been great so far. Today I went and interviewed a counselor who counsels mainly from a Buddhist background and it was great to hear her insight and to hear her account of spirituality within her practice. I'm excited for the other people I will interview and then to finally bring it all together in a paper! Wooh! :) Although this directed study is a lot more work than simply attending classes, I love doing this type of stuff so much more as I can get into research and do my own thing with it.

Tomorrow I hope to finish up my thesis, which would mean one of my classes would be finished (except for a presentation on Monday). I have 10 page paper due on the 30th. I thought the 30th was way at the end of the month. Turns out that's this Monday. Shucks. Better get on that.

It was interesting in the interview today as she mentioned that one of her main things is to teach people to be kind to themselves. To see what you're saying to yourself and perhaps to reframe it and take out the stuff that isn't true in an effort to be kind to ourselves. And once we've learned that, we can be kind with others out of that. Interesting that you could replace the word "kind" with "love" or many other words. It seems that only when we love and respect ourselves and treat ourselves with that respect as though we are valuable that we can truly treat others in the same fashion. So, be kind to yourself today, because you're worth it! (okay that was slightly cliche, but I had to say it.. haha)

Have a great day!

Tired, Travel, Time

Happy Monday! I'm a little shocked that it is already the 23rd of March! Ahhh!! Everything is flying by so incredibly fast. Lately I have been getting more sleep than ever before and am so exhausted. I have decided that perhaps I have sleep apnea which could explain why I'm tired often and also why my mind is not working so well of late (or maybe that's just from being on overload!)

Lately I have been really wanting to go away, yet at the same time have been fairly content at home. I have to be content at home until about August mind you.. I think that will be record for me! I'm excited for some summer projects around the house and to go out exploring a lot more around the area.

This weekend in church I was on worship team which was great. A favorite moment of mine was when the leader started singing the wrong word. He pronounced f- and then realized, so switched and sang "heart". The resulting word was "fart". "No fart could fully know..." haha.. I paused and thought "Did he just sing fart?" I glanced over and noticed another band member trying not to laugh and had to work to keep my composure as well. The five year old within me thought it was pretty funny. :)

One of the quotes mentioned in the sermon was "It's never too late to be who you want to be". So true. yet so often I forget that. Change is possible. I see change as immediate as is reflective of the culture we live in today. We want immediate gratification. Yet, change is a slow and gradual process that we need to be persistent and perseverant in. So I was encouraged once again to keep pressing on! :)

Here's an updated countdown:
3 more days until Jocelyn comes over (just so she can be included in the countdown this time)
7 more days of classes!
16 more days until classes are over (and hopefully most of my large papers)
22 more days until my last exam
23 more days until I start work
83 more days until fun and excitement!

Now I'm off to do some work. I'm tempted to take another nap, but I'm off to prison in a while, so I will hold off. :) Have a good week!

Blog, Brain, Boo

Holler,

No pictures but I need a break from marking papers on my computer so thought I would post a little ditty.

My brain hurts of late and I'm tired ALL the time. I don't understand it. I have actually been getting the proper amount of sleep but that does not seem to be helping my problem. Hmmm. And I don't speak well these days...

My favorite quote from the other day was:
"My water is full of ears."
To which Heidi then looked into my cup and said "no it's not"
What I meant to say was "My ears are full of water"
Sigh. One day I'll be able to speak again

I had something exciting to write about but now I forget what that was. haha. I'm still going to take pictures soon!

Right now I"m homeworking with my friends Jocelyn and Mandeep, so perhaps I'll get back to that. Ciao for now! Actually I just took pics with my computer of us studying. Not the best quality pics cuz my hand was shaking, but there you go. A post with pictures!!

Hot, Henry, Homework

Greetings!! I have had no hot water for about three days. Turns out the pilot light was out, and I couldn't get it relit. The plumber came and discovered it's leaking and needs to be replaced. So the water dripping dripped on the pilot light. Shucks. I was hoping to get to pay for a new water tank this month. Good thing I factored that into the budget. Note to self: make section for miscellaneous expenses...

So now I have a new hot water tank and I shall name him Henry after a vacuum cleaner I once used while living in Quebec. Henry sucked (in a good way because he is a vacuum cleaner) and so in honor of his faithful sucking, I shall name my water heater after him.

Anyway, enough of that. haha. Went to the Canucks game last night and we won 4-2!! YAH! Last time I went with Cheryl, we lost 8-2, so I'm glad it's not her that was unlucky. Plus, it was St. Patty's day, so it was a good day in all. I even wore green!! :)

Lately I have had too much work (Teacher assistant wise) to do my own work. And March is rapidly racing by. Yet somehow it always gets done, so I will count on that once again :)

Talk to you soon! Perhaps one of these days I will have exciting pictures or something.

Countdown:
10 more classes!
26 more days until my last exam!
27 more days until I start working full time!
37 days until graduation!
87 more days until excitement!
100 more pages to type yet on various papers!

Fall, Future, Familiar

Sorry for my lack of blogging lately. I have been consumed with school and most of the time I feel like my mind is in a haze that doesn't function optimally. Soon perhaps I will post some photos.

I have been trying to decide what to do after graduation in a little over a month. Sometimes I wish my decisions could be made for me because there are far too many out there! So here's my plan for now: Start working full time after my last exam (April 14th) at Premier Agendas (same place Chrystal works). I will work there until October and take one class in fall at school (needed for grad school). Then I shall travel in the new year, work again for the summer and go to grad school in the fall. Or I will get a job as a border crossing guard or corrections guard and go that route. I guess time will tell.

Things I'm excited for after graduating:
-Being able to read non-textbook books. It is my goal to read the books in my library and hopefully I will be blogging about them a lot more!
-Being able to go have fun with no guilt of having to do homework
-Having a job and coming home and not having anything related to do at home.. so my free time is my own!
-Having the chance to paint more rooms in my house!
-Being on a regular sleeping pattern!

That's all I have for now!! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Man, Mustache, Merriment

The other day in my learning class we had a presentation where we interviewed a learning theoriest from the past. My friend Kristen interviewed Clark Hull, who was me for that moment. I think I did a pretty good job looking like a man with my stunning glasses and my mustache. Haha.. I keep laughing at this photo because it is quite funny. Thought you might enjoy it too. :)

Bahamas, Bathing, Beautiful

Well I was going to wait until I got a comment or two on my last post, but now I realize that might be years in coming, so I will just post again. :) But who knows after that...

So on Saturday I got back from a trip to the Bahamas with Lindie and Chrystal. WE had a great time! We stayed at Atlantis on Paradise Island where they have incredible aquariums and water slides and it is all pretty fun. The beaches were beautiful as well. I think one of my favorite things about going to hot places is standing on the beach at night, looking at the stars and listening to the waves crash.

Anyway, the trip was a lot of fun and I had some good moments of breakthrough and perspective change which has been really refreshing, but I will perhaps talk about that some other time. Enjoy the pictures!

Our row of flip flops!

Flip flop models

One of the water slides

The tube ride we frequented far too often!

They had a conveyer belt so you dont' even have to get off your tube!

So I think my favorite part about having an underwater digital camera is to watch other people's reactions who apparently haven't heard that such a thing exists.

Here's some favorite comments:
"Um.. you realize your camera might get wet on this tube ride, right?"
(overheard by Lindie) "That's a really nice digital. I wonder if she knows that if it gets wet, it will wreck it"
I had fun playing it up by taking pictures while standing in the water and then pretending to drop it. haha.. Always an entertaining moment.

Apparently there was still a water spot on the camera.. conveniently blocking my head

The ride that goes through the shark tunnel. dun dun dun. that's Chrystal going down the slide.

Favorite moment on the tube ride. There's this massive guy really uncomfortably trying to lie flat on top of the tube. He floats by me and proclaims:
"Man! I thought I was top heavy! Wow!"
Um.. thanks. hope you do that to a lot of strangers. Anyway, I replied that he could sit in the tube no problem then if I could. So I told him to scootch his butt down into the hole and as he did, his bathing suit proceeded to slip off his butt completely, leaving it entirely exposed hanging in the tube and meanwhile he couldn't get out or move because he was kind of stuck. HAHAHA.. I think I died laughing then as we kept floating down the river with the full moon. :)

And that's all for now! No more trips coming up for now-I'm home for a while (we'll see how long that lasts!). I have decided that March will be my most insane and brutal month in all my years of university. Sounds like fun!! :) More updates to come!
